Threads & Thorns Learning in Bloom

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
— Charles W. Eliot

Tonight my coffee steams beside two dear companions:
• Where the Wild Rose Blooms by Lori Wick — a tender frontier tale that reminds me courage can be soft-petaled yet iron-rooted.
• Spinning, Dyeing & Weaving by Penny Walsh — a hands-on guide that passes ancestral skill from page to palm, one spindle-turn at a time.

One story feeds the heart, the other feeds the hands; together they teach that growth is equal parts imagination and practice.

There’s something sacred about curling up with a book, the world quieting just enough for a story to speak.

Books have been my refuge, my mentors, my oldest friends. They ask nothing but time, and in return, they gift us understanding, courage, and perspective. In the stillness of their pages, I’ve found healing, truth, and the kind of companionship that doesn’t need noise to be felt.

As I walk this path of lifelong learning—through farming, herbalism, weaving, and healing—I’m constantly reminded that books are a part of that journey. Whether it’s a textbook full of plant wisdom or a novel that stirs the heart, every page turns toward growth.

To anyone else out there on their own journey—slow, intentional, full of wonder—know this: you’re never alone when there’s a book in your hands.

So here’s to taking life one stitch, one chapter, one quiet sip at a time. May your own learning blossom wild and your craft wind steady on the spindle.
